Substance use affects people’s lives and can impact their support networks and wider communities. At the same time, people who engage in substance use can feel more disconnected and isolated from their communities.
Social connection can serve as the antidote to the overdose crisis and we all have a role to play in creating compassionate communities. We hope that this event will help participating community members begin to unravel the complexity of substance use and bring a sense of “humanness” to the overdose crisis.
Green Wood Coalition and the Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland Drug Strategy will be set up under the green tent at the Cobourg Farmers’ Market (located at Waterfront Rotary Park) from 8AM-1PM offering a variety of ways for community members to get involved. Learn more about International Overdose Awareness Day, get naloxone training, make a memorial flag, and participate in Sidewalk Talks Cobourg – an opportunity to dive into deeper dialogue about grief, loss and the overdose crisis.
