Our Vision

Across Ontario approximately 35 drug strategies have been implemented to respond to substance use-related harms and issues faced by community members, service providers, health care systems, and all levels of government. The purpose of the Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland (HKLN) Drug Strategy (formerly known as the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge Drug Strategy) is to facilitate a collaborative, evidence-based approach to minimize the risks and harms associated with substance use in Haliburton County, City of Kawartha Lakes, and Northumberland County.

The HKLN Drug Strategy strives for supportive and safe environments that promote the health and resiliency of individuals, families and communities, and reduce the harms and stigma associated with substance use.

Addressing the harms associated with substance use requires the cooperation and collaboration of many community partners and service providers. Raising awareness about substance use is vital to engage all members of the community and to learn about the ways in which we can all make a difference and foster supportive and safe environments.

You can make a difference by:

  • Learning about drugs and the harms that could be associated with their use
  • Talking to your family and neighbours about what you have learned
  • Safely disposing of any old or unused medications, and substance use equipment (i.e., needles)
  • Receiving training on overdose prevention and naloxone administration
  • Assuring people that it is okay to talk about their substance use
  • Seeking professional help for ourselves and/or the people we love
  • Putting an end to impaired driving
